2-Year-Old Shot in Barbershop on Barracks Row

A father and his 2-year-old son were shot and injured Friday afternoon when three masked men stormed into a barbershop near the Washington Navy Yard, police said.

The toddler and his father were rushed to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, D.C. police said.

The man and his son were shot about 2 p.m. in Wrenn’s Barbershop at 1005 8th St. SE, just south of the busy Barracks Row strip of restaurants and shops.

The little boy was asleep in his father’s lap, waiting to get his hair cut, when three men wearing masks entered the business and one man opened fire, police and witnesses said. Both the father and his son were hit.

“At this time, we do believe this was not a random event,” D.C. Assistant Police Chief Peter Newsham said.

Officers are seeking three men who drove off in a white SUV. No additional information on the suspects was immediately released.

The little boy’s socks, shoes and cartoon backpack still lay on the barbershop floor Friday evening. A bullet hole could be seen in the chair where he and his father sat.

“The boy is alert and I’m told he was able to talk at the hospital,” Newsham said.
